How Britain corrupts Africa and makes it poorer
Tue Feb 9, 2010
What an excellent article. I was interested to read that he says corruption causes more deaths than drugs... Aid also corrupts. Have you read the following book or come across: "DEAD AID", Why Aid Is Not Working and How There Is a Better Way for Africa by Dambisa Moyo http://www.dambisamoyo.com/d …
Mugabe forces Zimbabwe aid agencies into cash crisis
Sat Oct 18, 2008
I find it very sad to hear how the suffering in Zimbabwe continues. How long before South Africa, which has the power to change things, demands that Mugabe and the wealthy elite surrounding him are dismissed from power?
Pesidential Debate # 2 Obama & McCain Blog and Poll Who is The Winner?
Tue Oct 7, 2008
I was watching the debate from Australia where i live. It is very interesting and I was not bored. McCain keeps on saying how his judgement is the better one to lead the country, how he has command ability etc. AND YET how could he allow his party to choose Palin as his 2nd in command. Even if it m …
'Please explain' sought over pulp mill
Thu Sep 11, 2008
Lets hope this mill never goes ahead. It now looks asif it may not due to lack of finances (one good result of the world debt crisis) and the EIS that the federal government must sign off on.
Zimbabwe leader relaxes grip on power
Thu Sep 11, 2008
Lets see the detail before we celebrate. I hope that Morgan T. has not let Mugabe and his henchmen have any control of the army or police in Zimbabwe. Otherwise it will be business as usual.
We do not change leaders as fast we change our shirts
Sun Nov 18, 2007
I would hate to look at the state of his shirt...... What a flippant remark in a country where people have suffered for so long while Mugabe and his elite live in luxury. What is to be done?
Starved to death: migrant's tragic story highlights plight of Zimbabwean refugees
Sat Nov 17, 2007
Evano, its a mystery, and many have wondered why other African nations have not done more in standing up against the tyranny of Mugabe's regime and supporting the suffering of the population. Most specificially why has President Mbeki of South Africa not done more? He could have stopped the misery o …
South Africa: A Land of Contrasts
Thu Nov 8, 2007
Most interesting. South Africa is such a beautiful country but the challenge of poverty continues. Last week, I asked someone from Johannesburg what the going rate for a house maid was. About 5 years ago it was R2,000 (about USD 300) a month for a live-in person. Since then there has been a huge inc …
Oz election - Oz World Vision head backs Opposition Labor AID; "matter of life and death"
Sun Nov 4, 2007
GP, please could you give references for this statement of yours: Indigenous Australians are horribly deprived and their medical services are funded at about half of what they should be.
Water: A Precious, and Wasted, Resource
Sat Nov 3, 2007
In South Australia we are in our 2nd year of drought. Bearing in mind that we are the driest state in the driest continent in the world, that is saying something. Our winter rains have failed again. Discussions about water are popular amongst people at casual meetings. Watering of gardens is severly …
